In 1995 I moved to San Fransisco and started working on the biggest and most elaborate boat that I have ever made.
It was a 16 foot long wooden boat,
skinned and sealed with canvas and tar.
I brought the boat to China Basin,
and staged a theatrical performance.
Here are Yutaka Sho and Charles Rittman aboard the boat.
Tao Urban and Roxanne Bartlet were back on shore – the only audience.
I used the boat only a few other times. Once to take my friend Jeff Anderson’s band, Beak, out to crash a jazz festival that was being held on the shore.
They stole the show.
When I moved away from San Fransisco I left the boat with my roommates, hanging close to the cieling of our warehouse.
When they were finally evicted from the space, my friend Debbie Tuch took matters into her own hands,
and gave the boat a propper funeral.
