In 1998 I moved with my parents to St. Petersburg, Russia. They were teaching there at the time, and I had heard that it was the ‘Venice of the North’.
I devised a way to track the currents in the river by fixing a camera onto a small raft and leaving the shutter open as I drifted through the canals. In this photograph you can see the little raft sitting on an ice embankment in the Neva River.
