Graybelt
snapshots of the Texas Colorado River
Graybelt is a video map of the Texas Colorado River, navigating from Colorado City to the Gulf of Mexico in a boat that I made, over the course of one year. I’m bringing participants along for sections of the trip, learning from people who’s lives revolve around the river and water use, as well as those who don’t think about the Colorado River much at all. I hope to assemble a new vision of the landscape like JG Ballard’s description in The Drowned World (1968) “a careful preparation for a radically new environment, with its own internal landscape and logic, where old categories of thought would merely be an encumbrance.”
This project is funded by the Planet Texas 2050 Research Initiative.
